What Is Corporate Culture?
What Goes Into Cultivating a Strong Corporate Culture?

According to the Harvard Business Review, culture is defined as:
“…the tacit or unspoken social order of an organization: It shapes attitudes and behaviors in wide-ranging and durable ways. Cultural norms define what is encouraged, discouraged, accepted, or rejected within a group. When properly aligned with personal values, drives, and needs, culture
can unleash tremendous amounts of energy toward a shared purpose and foster an organization’s capacity to thrive.”
There are a lot of adjectives in the above description, but the word that anchors it all down is – aligned. It is critically important that your people are “aligned” or are congruent with your culture, mission, and vision for your organization.
Researchers at Spencer Stuart have interdependently studied and refined a list of eight cultures over the past two decades and they are caring, purpose, learning, enjoyment, results, authority, safety and order. Naturally, each of these "cultures" has its strengths and weaknesses, but which one predominantly defines your organization? Which one best fits your industry? What is your competition doing or known for? What do customers say when they leave your establishment, or your staff say about working for you? What do your satisfaction surveys reveal or not reveal? All these tell-tale signs - tell a tale.
These are important questions to ask. In fact, "corporate culture” is what makes companies like Google and Disney stand out. They are world-renowned for their HR policies, their customer service, and their unique working environment. Given the importance of having a well-defined culture, do you need help creating one that is in harmony with your vision, or need help stepping back and re-creating a culture that went off track? There is no sense in having a 5-star product with 2-star customer service, or excellent customer service with a substandard product and staff who are not invested or in alignment with your goals.
