The Gift of Giving

This time of year tends to bring out the best in everyone, with people being more conscientious of the needs of others. Generosity is seen through acts of kindness, donations, volunteerism, and organizational philanthropy.

Do you remember the inspiring film 'Pay it Forward' where the random acts of kindness were set in perpetual motion? This was described well in Wikipedia where it said: "Pay it forward is an expression for describing the beneficiary of a good deed repaying the kindness to others instead of to the original benefactor." Not only did it go on to become a global movement managed through the Pay It Forward Foundation, it was eventually hallmarked and became "International Pay it Forward Day." A truly altruistic initiative that continues to this day.



Those who receive gifts do so joyfully, however, it is the giver that receives the greater reward. Perhaps you could encourage your staff to give of their time or start a new initiative, which yields positive outcomes and also the quieter rewards of helping where the need is greatest. Generosity comes in many forms, and gratitude can always be expressed throughout the year by giving generously.
